Selma to Montgomery March, 1965 

From March 21st to March 25th of 1965, Martin Luther King Jr. led a 50 mile march from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, Alabama.

This march came after several weeks of attempts by marchers to complete the same route. In two instances they were deterred, once violently by local law enforcement.

This march was one of the culminating moments of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960's and greatly influenced the passing of the voting rights act of 1965.
